Rangers Cruise in ECAC Quarterfinals
Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (November 10, 2010) - The Rangers never trailed in 90 minutes of action today thanks to three first half goals in a 6-0 rout of St. Joseph's (11-8-2) this afternoon . The Rangers, the top seed in the ECAC Metro/Upstate Championships, will advance to the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
Kevin Walpole (Newark, Del./Sanford School) connected on his sixth goal of the year nearly 31 minutes into the game when he headed a perfect cross from freshman defender
RJ Voorman (Wycoff, N.J./Ramapo). Drew (13-3-3) would begin to pull away in a hurry as they would find the back of the net two more times in the half.
Only 1:32 after the Rangers broke a scoreless tie, senior
Jesse Puzio (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) received a pass from
Nicholas Callari (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) to make the score 2-0. Callari was in the middle of the field and played a nice through ball to Puzio who beat the keeper to the right corner.
Freshman
Kevin Veliz (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield) would get in on the scoring action with 1:33 remaining in the first frame when he was able to bend
Adrian Kawuba's (Watertown, Mass./Lexington Christian Academy) pass to the far right corner of the net.
Looking like the Rangers had something prove they did not sit back and continued to attack. They would add on three more goals in the second period. The senior combination of
Matthew Greenberg (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) and Kawuba would make the score 4-0 in the 53rd minute.
Craig Wagenblast (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) would tally the Rangers final two scores on the day with assists from Veliz and
Aldo Cascio (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Ramapo). The point for Cascio was the first of his career.
Goalkeeper
Jeff Rogers (Eldersburg, Md. / Century) tied a career-high with his 13th win of the year. He made three saves and earned his fifth shutout of the fall.
The Rangers are set to host Rutgers-Newark in the ECAC Semifinal round here in Madison this Saturday at 1 p.m.
