Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.) was one of three Rangers in double figures with 13 points.
In what proved to be a seesaw battle for almost all 40 minutes it was the Rangers who hit shots when it counted. Neither team held a lead of more than five for the first 48 minutes of the ball game. With 2:33 left in the game the Rangers held a one-point advantage after a Baptist Bible (4-4) layup. Senior
Jess Reid (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) was fouled and would start a string of clutch free throw shooting. Reid would hit both and on the next Ranger possession,
Jen Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) would get fouled attempting a three pointer. Mateo would give the Rangers their largest lead of the game, knocking down all three freebees.
The Defenders would come down and convert on a layup with 59 seconds to go, cutting the Drew lead to four. Baptist Bible was given the opportunity to chip away at the lead from the free throw line but would miss two out of three from the charity stripe in the final minute of play. Mateo would add another free throw and give the Rangers a four point lead with 11 seconds to go.
The Rangers shot a blistering 91 percent from the free throw line going 19-for-21 on the afternoon. Reid finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, recording her second double-double of the season. Mateo was the other Ranger in double figures as she finished with 11 and a career-high seven rebounds.
The Rangers will not return home until after the New Year but are back in action for the two-day Sheraton Shootout beginning on December 28th. Drew will take on Williams College at 7:00 PM in Dover, Delaware.
