MADISON, N.J. (December 5, 2010) - The Men's Swim team picked up their first win of the season in a two-day meet against cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson this afternoon, 168-125. The Rangers were able to sweep all the relays and tally six individual wins en route to their 12th-straight win over the Devils.
Three of the Individual wins came from freshman Thomas DiGuglielmo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk). On Saturday he won the 100 Fly and 100 Breast with times of 1:00.45 and 1:10.80 respectively. Both times were his best so far this season and top 15 in Drew swimming history. His 100 Breast time currently ranks fourth all-time and was two tenths of a second better than his previous time. He returned on Sunday to claim the top spot in 200 Breast with a time of 2:36.79.
Classmate Austin Goetjen (Simsbury, Conn./Avon Old Farms School) swept both Freestyle events. He helped the Rangers finish in the top three spots in the 200 Free turning in a time of 2:03.28. His 100 Free time of 53.32 was his second fastest time of the season.
Michael Ng (Scarsdale, N.Y./Edgemont) had himself another fantastic meet placing first in the 100 Back and second in the 100 Free to Goetjen by a hundredth of a second. Both times were his fastest of 2010 with his 100 Back time good enough to earn a spon on Drew's top 15 list.
Drew took home each relay on the weekend, the 200 Medley, the 800 Free Relay and the 400 Free. The combination of DiGuglielmo, Goetjen, Ng and Matt Boudreau (Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mountain) won the 200 Medley and the 400 Free. Damien Barube (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) swapped with Boudreu in the 800 Free Relay to help the Rangers post a team best 8:30.51.
The win was one of three for Head Coach Eric Scheingoltz on the weekend, who moved into third place all-time in wins at Drew.
The Rangers will not compete again until after the New Year when they take on the College of Staten Island at home on January 11.
