After the first 10 games of the 2010 season, the Drew Rangers softball team stands at 3-7. After going 2-4 through the first three days of play, the Rangers finished their spring break trip to Cape Coral, Florida 1-3, picking up a win over Bethany Lutheran and then dropping their next three games to Heidelberg, Wooster and Carroll.
In their victory over Bethany Lutheran, winning pitcher junior Adriana Durso improved her record to 3-2 on the season. Durso struck out five and allowed just three hits and one earned run. Junior firstbaseman Jillian Lusk went 2-3 with an RBI.
The Rangers faced streaking Heidelberg University later that afternoon. The Student Princes had won seven straight games entering their bout with the Rangers and got things moving quickly in the top half of the first scoring two runs off senior April Jacob.
Lusk who has had a hot bat all week for the Rangers answered with an RBI-triple in the bottom half of the frame. Heidelberg hitters came back hard for the Princes in the second with back to back base hits from Ashley Stromack and Megan Reindart. Bobbi Kendeigh was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Diers would walk to bring in a run. Three straight base hits from Heidelbergs one, two, and three hitters gave the Princes a 6-2 lead.
The Rangers would score again in the bottom half of the inning, after back-to-back hits from Jacob, Rebecca Skedziewski. Rookie shortstop Jeramie Barletta continued the hit parade and drove in Jacob with an RBI-single.
The Rangers kept fighting and scored two more runs in the bottom of the third against the best team they faced all week, taking advantage of two Briana Hinz walks to bring the score to 6-4.
Ranger bats would remain silent for the remainder of the game, putting just one runner in scoring position in the final four innings. Hinz dominated for the Princes striking out six for the victory.
Jacob, who took the loss on the mound, finished 3-3 at the plate with two RBI's.
On the last day of games in Florida the Rangers fell in the morning game to The College of Wooster 4-1.
Rookie Shortstop Jeramie Barletta went 2-3 and fellow first year Brenda Kramer drove in the Rangers only run in the bottom of the second inning. Adriana Durso took the loss for Drew and fell to 3-3 on the year,
In the afternoon game against Carroll University, the Rangers bats were silenced to just two hits. Winning pitcher Christine Roggemann fanned three Rangers and allowed hits only to Barletta and junior second baseman Kati Eggert.
Starting pitcher April Jacob walked six and struck out four batters as the Rangers record fell to 3-7.
The Rangers travel to Muhlenberg this Thursday, March 18 to take on the Mules at 3:00pm.
