MADISON, N.J. (March 17, 2010) – The Drew Rangers (0-8) lost to the John Jay Bulldogs (2-8) this afternoon after surrendering four runs in the first two innings. John Jay used the long ball to jump out to an early first inning lead. Edwin Hernandez lead off the game with a homerun and two batters later Wilmer Chavez hit a two-run shot to put the Bulldogs up for good.
Despite out-hitting the John Jay 10-7 the Rangers could not take advantage with runners on base as they left 12 runners stranded. Drew would push its first run across in the fourth inning when Louis Gianella (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) drove in Thomas Sharp (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) who reached on his first double of the season earlier in the inning.
The Rangers would mount a late comeback in the eighth inning. With the score 6-1, Bulldog starter Chris Camacho started to unravel. Sharp led off the inning with a single and David Kaplow (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) walked. Camacho would throw two wild pitches that would allow Sharp to score. Camacho was then pulled after walking his second batter of the inning and left with two of his runners still on base. After reliever Daniel LoPresti retired the first batter he faced, Michael Bodden singled in two runs to make the score 6-4.
Bodden ended the day going 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and Sharp scored two runs and also collected two hits.
Drew will open up conference play this weekend when they play the first of three against Catholic on Saturday at 1:00.
