Del Val Knocks Off Drew, 12-2

MADISON, N.J. (March 31, 2010)- The Delaware Valley Aggies cracked 15 hits en route to a 12-2 win over the Drew Rangers Wednesday afternoon at Doc Young Field.  Behind a strong five inning performance from starting pitcher Zac Stavish the Aggies improved their record to 8-7 while the Rangers snapped their two-game win streak and fell to 2-14 on the year.

Junior southpawBen Lynch (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) started on the hill for the Rangers and tossed three innings of shutout baseball before loading the bases full of Aggies in the top of the fourth.  Jake Barben scored on a fielder's choice for the first run of the ball game.  Mike Thomas followed with a single that plated Gary Cooper.  Thomas would score later in the inning on a Mike Isgro single up the middle.  The Aggies finished with five runs of five hits in the frame.

Isgro struck again in the top of the sixth with a long fly ball good for this third RBI of the game.

The Rangers got on the board in the bottom half of the inning.  Sophomore catcher Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) lead off with a walk and senior first baseman Matt McGrath (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) singled with no outs to put two runners on for the Rangers.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch from Aggies' righty Mark Cavallaro.  Rookie pinch hitter Louis Gialanella (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) would single in Murray and McGrath scored on a fielder's choice to give the Rangers two runs.

The Aggies responded with a four run seventh that busted the game open.  Kellen Jarrett ripped a one-out double up the left line and senior righty Doug Veterano (Tabernacle, N.J./St. Joe's Prep) plunked the next two batters to load the bases.  Senior shortstop Dylan Saldutti plated two with an double up the middle.  Zach Chodur knocked in another two runs for the Aggies with a single in the right center gap.

Barben cracked his first homerun of the season in the eighth and contributed an RBI single in the ninth to tack on two more runs for the Aggies.  Barben finished 2-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.  Isgro went 2-4 with three RBI's and Saldutti and Chodur both finished with two.

McGrath finished the day with two hits, Gianlanella and senior third baseman Tom Sharp (Toms River N.J./Toms River East) both had RBI's for the Rangers.

On the hill, Stavish picked up the decision for Del Val and improved to, Lynch took the loss falling to 0-2 on the year.

The Rangers travel to Huntingdon, Pa.  this weekend for a three game Landmark Conference series against the Juniata Eagles.
