Cardinals Win a Pair Against Rangers

MADISON, N.J. (April 10, 2010) – The Rangers ran into a red-hot Cardinal squad who have now won nine of their last eleven contests. The Catholic University pitching staff limited Drew to just one run and their offense scored twelve runs on the afternoon.

Game 1
Adriana Durso
(Old Tappan, N.J./North Valley Old Tappan)
went through the first six innings virtually unscathed but the Catholic bats awoke in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a 4-1 victory.
The Rangers got an early lead in their first turn at the plate when Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) hit a perfectly placed ball that allowed her to beat out the throw. She then swiped her sixth bag of the season to get into scoring position. An error by Cardinal pitcher Stephanie Clemente allowed Mateo to come around all the way from second for the early 1-0 lead.

Catholic (22-8, 3-3 Landmark) tied the game up in the top of the fourth when the first two batters reached on singles. With runners on second and third, a ground ball by Rachel Baker forced in the tying run.
The Cardinals collected three hits and were aided by two Ranger errors to open up the 4-1 advantage.

Game 2
Drew (7-17, 1-7 Landmark) could not solve Catholic pitcher Stacie Goddard who tossed a two –hitter and struck out seven Rangers in five innings of work.

Drew committed four errors in the game and three of them in the top of the fifth inning, aiding the six-run Cardinal rally in the top of the fifth inning.

The Rangers will go down the street on Wednesday to take on Farleigh Dickinson at 3:00.
