Devils Sweep Rangers in Madison Ave Softball Bout

MADISON, N.J. (April 13, 2010)- The Drew Rangers lost two games in a double header to the Farleigh Dickinson-Florham Devils Tuesday afternoon at McManus Field in Madison. The Rangers fell 9-0 in the first game to the Devils in five innings and 8-7 in eight innings in the second. The Devils improved their record to 10-16 while the Rangers fell to 7-19 on the season.

Game 1
The Devils got on board quick in the second inning with an RBI single from Marysa Cole and tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third.

Sophomore righty Alyscia Zulauf (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) retired the first two batters in the frame with ease but gave up a two-out walk to put the third batter on base. Brianne Faynor doubled and the next two Devils both reached base on a walk and a hit by pitch. Cole followed with a single to right center that plated Faynor and Megan Boyle good for her second and third RBIs of the afternoon.

The Devils hitters piled on five runs off three hits in the bottom of the fourth to ensure the shortened game victory. Cole picked up two more RBI's bringing her total to five on the day. Winning pitcher Megan McInaw notched eight strikeouts and held the Rangers to just two hits in the win.

Game 2
The Rangers struck first in the nightcap with two runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore right fielder Jackie Mannino (Little Silver, N.J./ Redbank) knocked in the first run and junior catcher Nicole Spiotta (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown) brought in the second with an RBI grounder to the right side.

The Devils scored a run in the bottom half of the frame with an sacrifice fly from pitcher Megan Golembiewski that scored Ronica Sorice who reached on an error.

Senior third baseman Jesyka Marko (Winfield, N.J./David Brearley) homered in the first pitch of her at-bat in the fourth to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead.

Mannino and Spiotta both struck again in the fifth. Both notched their second RBI's of the game good for a 5-1 Ranger lead.

The bottom half of the frame got ugly for the Rangers as the Devils scored four runs off of four hits to tie the game at five. Marko homered again to lead off the sixth inning. Rookie shortstop Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) scored on an error to put the Rangers up 7-5. Junior Adriana Durso (Old Tappan, NJ / No. Vall. Old Tappan) silenced the Devils' bats in the bottom half of the inning.

The Rangers went down quietly in the seventh but the Devils again took advantage of Drew mistakes in the bottom of the inning. The Rangers were just one out away from victory when the Christine Antoniotti scored on an infield error. Karla Babb followed with an RBI single to tie to the game and ensure extra innings.

Mannino picked up her third RBI of the game in the top of the eighth to give the Rangers a one-run lead with three outs to get.

The Ranger defense again floundered in the bottom of the frame allowing two runs to score off two errors.

Durso allowed just four earned runs and struck out five in the loss. Mannino and Marko both finished with three RBI's. Rookie designated hitter Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) went 3-5 with two runs scored.

The Rangers return to action this Thursday April 15 at 3:00pm, home against Baruch College.
