Non-Conference Win Streak Ends at Three

Non-Conference Win Streak Ends at Three

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 14,2010) – After enjoying recent success outside the Landmark Conference, the Ranger offense did not score 10 or more runs for the first time in three non-conference games. A combination of five Duck pitchers kept the Drew offense in check and came away with the 9-4 victory.

Freshman Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donvan) continued his hot hitting as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Bodden is now 7-for-9 over the past two games with five of his hits being doubles.

Stevens (12-17) jumped out to an early lead in their first turn at bat posting three runs. The Ducks' Denis Ackerman picked up the first of his three RBI's on the night on a single to right field and Kenneth Meerendonk then drove in Ackerman on a two-run double to nab a 3-0 lead at the end of the first frame.

Drew (6-21) would keep pace and score a run in each of their next turns at bat. After Matt McGrath(Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) reached on a walk and moved over on a fielder's choicein the bottom of the second, Peter Tuchol (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) came up with his second RBI in as many days to make the score 3-1.

Bodden would then pick up his fifth double of the week in the bottom of the third to score Neil Cashes(Little Silver, N.J. Red Bank Regional) who singled to lead off the inning. Cashes scored two runs on the day and be issued two walks on the night.

The Rangers put together one more rally in the top of the seventh inning to pull within one again. Down 5-2, the first two batters walked and the Rangers elected to move them both over on a sacrifice bunt by Tom Sharp (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East). Chris DelMaestro (Hillsborough, N.J/Hillsborough) then drove in the first run on a ground ball to the right side making the score 5-3. Drew would catch a break and score the second run of the inning off a wild pitch.

The game unraveled for the Rangers in the bottom of the seventh as the Ducks poured on four more runs and the Ducks bullpen surrendered just one more hit to help shut the door on the Rangers.

The Rangers return home tomorrow and will play Baruch on Doc Young Field with first pitch scheduled for 4:00.
