Scranton Takes Series With Game Three Victory

MADISON, N.J. (April 18, 2010) – Behind an outstanding outing by Royal pitcher Corey Gorman and an offensive explosion, Scranton took the rubber game, 21-1 today on Doc Young Field. Senior Matt McGrath (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) and Neil Cashes (Little Silver, N.J/Red Bank Regional) went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Rangers.

Scranton (15-17, 8-4 Landmark) scored in all but two turns at the plate this afternoon. Their four-run fourth inning made the score 10-0 and put the game out of reach for the Rangers. Gorman pitched seven innings and earned his fourth win of the year. The Rangers could not solve him, as he scatter five hits and struck 13 batters. At the end of the day Scranton pitching fanned 16 Rangers, the most by an opponent this season.

Drew (7-24, 4-11 Landmark) could not get out the Royal 2-3-4 hitters. Justin Champagne, Chris Bligh and David Giglio went a combined 8-for-12 and drove in 12 of the 21 runs. The trio crossed the plate eight times and was issued only one walk. The 21 runs were the most against the Rangers this season and the most since April 10 of last year.

Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) went 1-for-3 on the day and has now hit safely in 13 of the last 15 games.

The Rangers will travel to Reading, Pa. to take on Albright College on Tuesday in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 3:30.
