MADISON, N.J. (April 21, 2010)- The Drew Rangers fell to the New Jersey City Gothic Knights 3-1 Wednesday afternoon in Madison. The non-conference tilt lasted just six innings after inclement weather postponed play in the fourth and darkness settled over Doc Young Field.
The Gothic Knights scored early in the first inning when sophomore catcher Francisco Ramirez singled through the left side to score junior outfielder Ken Witte. Witte doubled with one out and stole third earlier in the inning.
The Rangers came back in the bottom half of the frame and tied things up at 1-1 with a
Tom Murray(Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) RBI-single. Murray drove in rookie second baseman

The Gothic Knights tacked on another run in the third when Witte continued his solid afternoon with an RBI-single to right field. Witte's second hit of the day tied him with NJCU's team leader Rob Gonzalez in hits with 50.
After a several lightning warnings, the game picked up action in the fifth with the Gothic Knights up 2-1 on the Rangers. The last two innings passed rather quietly, the Gothic Knights added an insurance run in the top of the fifth but would go the remainder of the game unanswered.
On the hill for the Gothic Knights, rookie right-hander Wendell Rodriguez went the full six innings, struck out three, and scattered just five hits. Rodriguez remains undefeated this season as his record improved to 4-0 with the win.
For the Rangers, rookie
Patrick Rock (Providence, R.I./Providence Country Day) also struck out three but took the loss and fell to 2-4 on the season.
Witte led the way offensively for the Gothic Knights. The junior finished 2-3 with an RBI and a stolen base keeping his stolen base-stolen base attempt ratio at a perfect 14-14. Ramirez also went 2-3 with an RBI for NJCU.
Murray earned the Rangers sole RBI in the contest, he finished 1-3 on the day.
The Rangers will take on the City College of New York tomorrow afternoon in KeySpan park in Brooklyn. First pitch is schedule for 3:30.
