Eagles Walk-Off With Sweep

Eagles Walk-Off With Sweep

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (April 3, 2010) – The Eagles came from behind to complete the series sweep of the Rangers this afternoon on Langdon-Goodale Field. Drew (2-17, 2-7 Landmark) held a 5-2 advantage going into the bottom of the eighth inning but Juniata (6-16, 4-5 Landmark) posted three runs in the eighth to tie the game and one run in the ninth to come out with the win.

After a three-run eighth inning for Eagles, the Rangers found themselves down by a run going into the top of the ninth. Tom Sharp (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) ignited the Drew offense and led off the inning with a single to right center field. Chris DelMaestro (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) then was hit by a pitch, moving the tying run to second.  After a failed bunt attempt and a pop out Matt McGrath (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) came up with his third hit and third RBI of the day to knot the score at five.

The Rangers could not push across another run and the stage was set for Juniata's Greg Hoffman. With the lead-off man on second base courtesy of a double, Hoffman ripped a single to left field that would score Andrew Kriss for the game-winning run.

Drew starter Will Van Houten (Dexter, N.Y./Watertown) went the distance for the Rangers and allowed only three earned runs while striking out four. DelMaestro continued to be a thorn in the Eagles side as he went 1-for-4 and scored two runs.

The Rangers will return home and will play a make-up game Wednesday against Centenary College with first pitch slated for 3:30.
