Drew Picks Up First Landmark Win, Split With Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (April 3, 2010) – The Rangers took game one of the two-game set against behind another solid outing by Adriana Durso (Old Tappan, N.J./No. Valley Old Tappan) en route to a 5-3 victory. Durso toed the rubber again in game two but the Rangers offense sputtered in the 4-2 loss.

Game 1
Before Durso even threw a pitch she had a two-run cushion thanks to a trio of singles in the top half of the frame. Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) led off the game with a single, got to second on a wild pitch and was moved over to third on a fielder's choice. The next batter, Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J/Morris Knolls), singled to drive in Barletta and quickly got over to third on two stolen bases. Nicole Spiotta (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown) got the final hit of the inning to get Eggert across and give the Rangers a 2-0 advantage.

The Eagles would get one back in the bottom half of the inning but the Rangers would lead the rest of the way. The middle of the lineup would be back at it again in the third inning. Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) got aboard when she pulled one down the right field line and Eggert collected her second hit of the game to put two Rangers aboard. Mateo and Eggert then got into scoring position when they executed a perfect double steal. Jackie Mannino (Little Silver, N.J./Redbank) then ripped a single down the right field line to score both Mateo and Eggert to make the score 4-2.

Durso scattered seven hits, struck out four and stopped the bleeding in the sixth inning after two Drew errors to earn her fourth victory of the season.

Game 2
Runs were a little harder to come by as Stacy Nagy and the Juniata defense held the Rangers to only three hits. Nagy, the game one starter, went seven innings and struck out three to earn her fifth win of the year.

The only offense for Drew came in the fourth inning with the Rangers trailing 2-0 and Eggert was in the middle of it again. With one out Eggert singled to center and then went on to swipe her fourth bag of the day to reach second. She was pushed to third on a fielder's choice and later scored on a passed ball. Jillian Lusk (Scotch Plains, N.J/Scotch Plains) came up the later in the inning and tied the game 2-2 on an RBI triple.

Juniata was able to put the ball in play and apply pressure to the Drew defense forcing a season-high four errors. Durso finished her day with 13 innings pitched and only three earned runs while striking out eight Eagles.

Eggert ended up going 3-for-7 with an RBI, had three runs scored and stole four bases on the day.

The Rangers game against Baruch scheduled for Monday has been cancelled and Drew will return to action Thursday when the make up a doubleheader against William Patterson at 3:30 on Thursday.
