Offensive Explosion Powers Drew Past Cyclones
MADISON, N.J. (April 7, 2010) - The Rangers picked up a convincing, non-conference win this afternoon as they beat Centenary, 13-2, on Doc Young Field. Senior
Giovanni Mancini (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland Regional) had his finest outing of the season pitching six innings and striking out seven to earn is second win of the season.
Centenary pitcher Johnny Veninata sat down the first six batters of the game until the flood gates opened for Drew in the bottom of third inning. Veninata recorded only one out and the Rangers collected seven hits in the inning to post an eight the scoreboard.
Steve DeBonis (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham),
Kyle O'Neill (Basking Ridge, N.J./Gill St. Benard's) and
Corey Napier (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional) all had two hits in the inning to spark the rally for the Rangers.
Drew (3-18) would continue to pour it on in its next turn at bat. After the first three batters walked to load the bases,
Matt McGrath (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) delivered a single that went in between short and third to score two more runs making the score 10-1. The Rangers would tack on two more runs in the inning to put the game out of reach.
Drew had four players with three hits including red-hot
Chris DelMaestro (Hillsborough,N.J./Hillsborough), who went 3-for-5, scored three runs and had an RBI. DelMaestro now has six hits in his last 13 at-bats and has scored six times in the last four games.
The 7-8-9 hitters, Debonis, O'Neil, and Napier, went 9-of-15 with seven RBI and four runs scored for the Rangers .
