Cross-Ave Rivals Hammer Rangers

MADISON, N.J. (May 4, 2010)- The Drew Rangers baseball season came to a grim end today as they fell to Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham 20-4. The Rangers compiled for 11 hits but could not produce with runners in scoring position as their record fell to 8-32 on the year.

The Rangers got off to a decent start after striking first in the games' inning. Sophomore catcher Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) cracked an RBI-double to score rookie second baseman Chris DelMaestro (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) who singled earlier in the inning.

The Devils put immediate response into action in the bottom half of the first. The Rangers shaky defense made three errors and the Devils capitalized scoring four runs off of just two hits.

Sophomore outfielder Drew Obergfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic) worked an RBI-double in the fourth for the Rangers but the Devils exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third.

The Rangers put up another two runs in the top of the six after outfielders Corey Napier (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional) and Tom Sharp (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) singled back-to-back with runners on.

The Devils piled on six more runs in the bottom of the seventh, allowing no possibility of a Ranger comeback. Senior Greg Geran drove in six runs for the Devils, while fellow senior drove in a close five, highlighted by a seventh inning grandslam. The Devils improved to 28-9 on the year as they gear up for the Freedom Conference Playoff Tournament which begins tomorrow in Madison.

Senior Tom Clark (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) took the loss in his final appearance in Green and Blue.
