Jablonskij Keeps Drew Unblemished

NEWARK, N.J. (September 12, 2010) - Sophomore Roman Jablonskyj (Long Valley, N.J./Gill St. Benards) scored his third goal in as many games to help the Rangers get past Albright College by the score of 3-2 in the final game of the Scarlet Raider Classic.

Drew (5-0) found themselves trailing for only the second time in the young season when Lion forward Gibrilla Conde got the games first goal only 2:33 into the game. The Rangers would respond a little under five minutes later when Philip Mabika (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) came up with a loose ball off a Drew corner kick to knot the game at one.

Mabika would have a hand in the first of two Ranger go-ahead goals of the afternoon. At the 23:59 mark he crossed a ball from the left goal line to freshman Matthew Gragnano (Hazlet, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) who headed the ball into the back of the net. Gragnano has now had a goal in each game of the 2010 season.

The Lions would respond before the first half horn to tie the game at two when Conde netted his second goal of the day with 5:01 remaining in the frame.

After battling for the majority of the second half, the Lion defense finally caved with 6:06 remaining in the contest. Kevin Walpole (Newark, Del./Sanford School) ripped a shot that was saved by the Lion goalkeeper but Jablonskij was there to put the ball into the open right side of the net.

Despite winning both games of the Scarlet Raider Classic, Drew ended up as the runner-up to host, Rutgers-Newark who took home the title based on goal differential. Three players represented Drew on the All-Classic Team. Mabika, RJ Voorman (Wycoff, N.J./Ramapo) and Matthew Greenberg (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) were all voted to the 11-man squad.

The Rangers will host the Battle of Madison Ave. on Wednesday when they take on long-time Rival Farleigh Dickinson at 7:00.
