Drew Suffers First Loss of 2010

Drew Suffers First Loss of 2010

Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (September 19, 2010) - Vassar College (5-2) scored a late first half goal to help shutout the Rangers, 2-0 this afternoon on Drew's grass field. The home loss is only the fourth since 2007.

For the second year in a row Drew (6-1) dropped a regular season match to the Brewers. Last year, in Poughkeepsie, the Rangers fell 2-1 in two overtimes. The Brewers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 1:21 left in the half on a goal by Adam Mcabe. The ball was popped up in the air by Ethan Halberg and one-touched by Mcabe into the right corner of the net.

The Rangers held a slight shot advantage in the physical game that saw three yellow cards. Both teams had 6 shots in the first half and Drew unleashed one more than Vassar in the second.

The Brewers added their second goal of the afternoon again with just 1:30 left in the game. A nice combination by Ross Maclin and Evan Seltzer setup a wide open Harrison Freund on the far post to put the game out of reach for the Rangers.

Freshman Matthew Gragnano (Hazlet, N.J/Christian Brothers Academy), the Landmark Conference's leading scorer had a team-high four shots for the Rangers.

Drew will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Elizabethtown College for a non-conference tilt. Game time is set for 7:00.
