Rangers Suffer First Setback of the New Year

MADISON, N.J. (January 11, 2011) - The College of Staten Island was able to pull of a 100-77 victory in F.M. Kirby pool this evening for the second time in three years. The men turned in two first place finishes and two personal bests on the evening.

Freshman Michael Ng (Scarsdale, N.Y./Edgemont) was one of the Ranger swimmers to take first place honors. The first year swimmer took home the 50 Free with a time of 24.23. Ng would later come back and post his season best time of 2:22.42 in the 200 Back.

Matt Gately had the other first place time in the 500 Free. His time of 6:26.60 was nearly two minutes faster than any other swimmer in the race. Becoming of the Rangers top distance swimmers, he picked up four points for the team with a second place finish in the 1000 Free.

Nelson Melendez (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrenceville) was the other Ranger swimmer to come away with a personal best. He cleared his personal best time in the 50 Free by almost a half of second.

The Rangers will begin to prepare for Landmark Conference action when they travel to Goucher College a matchup with the Gophers and the Mariners of Merchant Marine on Saturday
