Rangers Sweep in Landmark Tri-Meet

TOWSON, Md. (January 15, 2011) - In their annual tri-meet with Goucher and Merchant Marine, the Ranger women were able to come away with wins against both squads for the first time since entering the Landmark Conference in 2007. The Rangers improve to 6-3 on the year, the most wins since they posted seven in the 2001-02 season.
The Rangers set the tone early, winning three of the first four races and finishing in as high as second in the first nine. The in the first event, the 200 Medley Relay, the Rangers turned in their best time of the year. The quartet of
Jessica Harrington (Ridgefield Conn./Ridgefield),
Alexa Morrissey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontebonne Hall Academy),
Kati Eggert (Denvile, N.J./Morris Knolls) and
Mariel Schwinger (Los Angeles, Calif./Sherman Oaks) just out-touched Merchant Marine with a time of 1:59.67. Each of the swimmers would go on to pick up first places in individual events throughout the afternoon.
Eggert continued her impressive week as she finished first in the 50 Free (26.25), 100 Free (57.79) and 100 Fly (1:04.96). Her 100 Fly time was her best time of the 2010-11 season while her 50 Free time was a hundredth of a second off her season best. In total she had five individual wins on the week and two relay wins.
Harrington posted her best 200 Back time of the season as she finished nearly three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Earlier in the meet she and
Marissa Kraynak (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley) finished 1-2 in the 100 Back.
The freshmen, Schwinger was the other Ranger swimmer to take home two first place finishes. After anchoring the 200 Medley, she finished second in the 1000 free and then went on to win the 200 Free as well as the 500 Free. Her 200 Free time of 2:03.62 just missed her lifetime best of 2:03.23
The men would not enjoy the same success in the meet as the dropped both matchups to Merchant Marine and Goucher. Freshman
Thomas DiGugliemlo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) was credited with the Rangers' only first place finish in the 200 IM.
Both teams will be home this weekend in their final home meets of the season. On Friday the Rangers take on both Susquehanna and Juniata on Friday evening at 6:30 PM. Saturday the Rangers will close out their home schedule when they welcome in King's College for a non-conference dual meet.
