MADISON, N.J. (October 15, 2011) – The Ranger offense exploded for three second half goals to cruise past Scranton (4-7-3, 1-2-1 Landmark) 3-0 in Ranger Stadium. Celebrating senior day, the Rangers improved to 12-2 and 3-1 in Landmark Conference play.
The two teams squandered multiple opportunities in the first half of play and played to a 0-0 first-half draw. Freshman
John Nogiewich (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) broke the scoreless tie in the 65
th minute with his team-high sixth goal of the season.
Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) served a ball off a corner that was misplayed by the goaltender allowing Nogiewich to walk in the game's first goal.
A little over five minutes later Castro set up
Kevin Walpole (Newark, Del./Sanford School) who headed the corner ball in for his second goal of the fall. The Rangers controlled much of the second half, outshooting the Royals 7-4 and held a 15-10 advantage for the game.
Philip Mabika (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) added the final Ranger goal in the 82
nd minute, rocketing a ball from the corner of the box past the Royal keeper for his second of the season.
Junior
Rich Boland (North Kingstown, R.I/Moses Brown) recorded his Landmark leading seventh shutout of the year, making four saves in the win. Nine of the Rangers 12 wins this season have come by virtue of a shutout.
The Rangers will hit the road this Wednesday for a Landmark Conference match against Merchant Marine. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. in Kings Point, N.Y.
