First Half Goal Sinks Mariners

Boland is fourth in the country in save percentage and seventh in goals against average.
Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y. (October 19, 2011) - On a blustery and rainy night, the Rangers came up with a 1-0 win over conference foe Merchant Marine (8-6-1, 3-2-1 Landmark) this evening. Sam Nepveux (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored his third goal of the season for the game's only score.

The Rangers (13-2, 4-1 Landmark) were fouled right outside the box in the 17th minute resulting in a free kick. Sophomore Kevin Veliz (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield) sent a low liner towards the box that a slashing Nepveux was able to head into the back of the net to make the score 1-0.

The goal was all the Rangers would need as the defense held on for its 10th shutout of the season and third in as many games. The Mariners fired a total of 15 shots compared to nine by the Rangers. Junior Rich Boland (North Kingston, R.I./Moses Brown) recorded his eighth shutout of the fall and made six saves in the win.

Head Coach Lenny Armuth's squad will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon, Pa. for a conference matchup with the Juniata at 1:00 p.m.
