Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y. (October 19, 2011) - On a blustery and rainy night, the Rangers came up with a 1-0 win over conference foe Merchant Marine (8-6-1, 3-2-1 Landmark) this evening.
Sam Nepveux (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored his third goal of the season for the game's only score.
The Rangers (13-2, 4-1 Landmark) were fouled right outside the box in the 17
th minute resulting in a free kick. Sophomore
Kevin Veliz (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield) sent a low liner towards the box that a slashing Nepveux was able to head into the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
The goal was all the Rangers would need as the defense held on for its 10
th shutout of the season and third in as many games. The Mariners fired a total of 15 shots compared to nine by the Rangers. Junior
Rich Boland (North Kingston, R.I./Moses Brown) recorded his eighth shutout of the fall and made six saves in the win.
