Rangers Play Cardinals to 1-1 Draw

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 29, 2011) – In today's regular season finale between first place Catholic (13-3-1, 6-0-1 Landmark) and second place Drew (15-2-1, 5-1-1 Landmark) ended in a 1-1 tie at Cardinal Stadium. The tie gives the Rangers the second seed in the Landmark playoffs in which they will face the third seed, Merchant Marine.

The Cardinals got on the board early with only the eighth goal scored on the Ranger defense this season, 3:33 into the game. Senior Michael DiMarco passed the ball ahead to junior Mike Brennan who was able to chip the ball over Ranger goalkeeper Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran).

The Rangers tied the game up in the 73rd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore Kevin Veliz (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield) converted his third freebee of the season to knot the game at one.

Drew statistically dominated the contest, holding a 24-9 advantage in shots and only surrendering two shots on net. Catholic goalkeeper Torsten Meuschke made six saves in 110 minutes of action while Reyes had only one stop for the Rangers.

Drew will host a semifinal game for the fifth-straight season on Wednesday against Merchant Marine. A time is yet to be determined.
