Castro Nets Two in Fourth-Straight Win

Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (October 9, 2011) – The Rangers picked up their fourth-straight victory today with a 3-1 victory over Goucher College (5-7, 2-1 Landmark). Sophomore Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) netted two goals to help the Rangers improve to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in Landmark Conference play.

Castro put the Rangers ahead in the 13th minute when classmate RJ Voorman (Wycoff, N.J/Ramapo) registered his team-leading fourth assist of the fall. The Rangers unleashed a total of 38 shots in the game including 17 in the first half. Despite the shooting barrage the Rangers went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In the 69th minute the Rangers made it a two-goal game when Ian Elfers (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) sent a long cross to Castro for his third goal of the year. The Gophers responded less than five minutes later on an unassisted goal by Elijah Lais. The goal was the first score by the Gophers against the Rangers in the five all-time meetings.

Goucher came close on numerous opportunities in the closing minutes but failed to capitalize. Freshman John Nogiewich (Pine Beach, N.J/Toms River South) added the final Ranger goal with just two seconds left in the game for his team-leading fifth of the season.

The Rangers will be back at Ranger Stadium on Wednesday when they welcome Muhlenberg at 7:00 p.m. The game will be part of Drew's Breast Cancer awareness campaign. For more information and to donate visit www.drewrangers.com/drewcares .
