Montclair State Hands Rangers First Loss

MONTCLAIR, N.J (November 11, 2011) – The men's swim team fell to the Red Hawks of Montclair State this evening by a score of 100-84. The loss moves the Rangers record to 1-1 on the young season.

The Red Hawks were tough to catch, capturing first place in every event. The Rangers turned a number of season best times and second place finishes keeping pace.

Freshman Clayton Curran (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) continued his impressive start to his Ranger career with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle. His time of 1:56.28 was thee seconds off his time a week ago which was the ninth fastest in school history.  The first year swimmer anchored the 400 freestyle relay comprised of Thomas DiGuglielmo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk), Michael Ng (Scarsdale, N.Y./Edgemont) and Austin Goetjen (Simsbury, Conn./Avon Old Farms School) that was a second off the best time from the entire 2010-11 season.

Another highlight from the night was Goetjen who finished second in the 500 freestyle, topping his best time of the season with a time of 5:46.38. He also turned in a season-best in the 50 freestyle early in the night with a time of 25:18.

The Rangers will return home on Wednesday when they welcome Mount St. Mary's to F.M. Kirby Pool. First event is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
