Box Score MADISON, N.J. (November 12, 2011) – The Scarlet Raiders took down the top-seeded Rangers this afternoon, 1-0 in Ranger Stadium. Rutgers-Newark (13-8-2) will advance to the ECAC Metro Championship game tomorrow afternoon to face William Paterson.
Drew (15-4-1), who defeated the Rutgers-Newark 3-0 in last year's semifinals, could not cash in on a number of opportunities in both halves. The Rangers outshot the Scarlet Raiders 14-5 in the contest with Scarlet Raider goalkeeper Jonathan Frances making four saves in his eighth shutout of the season.
The only goal of the day came in the 48
th minute when Daniel Naranjo slipped past the Ranger defense and beat Ranger netminder
Rich Boland (North Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown) on a one-on-one breakaway off a pass from Nick Kypriano.
Besides the goal the Rangers did not see much action on the defensive end. Boland was credited with two saves and the Scarlet Raiders only attempted one corner compared to the seven by the Rangers.
Tomorrow's ECAC Championship game will be played at Ranger Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Rutgers-Newark will square off against the winner of Pionneers for the second time this season.
