Box Score Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (November 22, 2011) – Despite 25 points from senior Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.), the Rangers suffered a 68-58 loss at the hands of Baptist Bible (2-2) earlier this evening in Baldwin Gym. The loss is the second of the young season, putting the Rangers at 2-2 for the year.

Barber was two points shy of matching a career-high and added six assists and five rebounds. The Defenders balanced scoring attack was led by Ruthie Butts who scored 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The two teams battled over the first half of play and it was the Rangers who controlled the early minutes. Barber hit three 3-pointers and added a layup in the first six minutes of play giving the Rangers a seven-point advantage at the 14-minute mark. Drew worked the lead to as high as 10 before Baptist Bible went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to just one with 10:22 to play in the first frame. Both teams ran cold towards the end of the half with only four field goals made over the final 10 minutes of play. The Rangers emerged with a 29-27 lead at the halftime horn.

The Defenders exchanged baskets with Rangers at the start of the final period and finally took their first lead of the contest with 17:55 remaining in the game. The one-point advantage quickly turned to seven with 11:03 left and Baptist Bible never looked back. The Defenders were clutch down the stretch, countering the Ranger attack with big shot after big shot.

After the Rangers worked the lead down to three with under three minutes remaining it was Kelly Bargfeldt and Kacee Rava who hit back-to-back shots to keep the home team at a safe distance. Bargfeldt had 13 of her 16 points in the second half while Rava sparked the Defenders for 10 of her 15 in the final period.

The only other player in double figures for the Rangers was senior Victoria Ault (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) who chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

The Rangers will return to action after the Thanksgiving break when they travel to Vassar next Tuesday for a non-conference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
