Offense Explodes as Rangers Romp Regents
Box Score
CAPE CORAL, Fla. (March 10, 2011) - On a dark and rainy day in southwest Florida, the Ranger offense was able to light up the scoreboard with a 15-run outburst to capture their fifth win of the spring. Five Rangers had multiple hit efforts in the 15-1 victory over Rockford College.
The Rangers did most of their damage in just two innings of work. After the Regents got out of the first inning unscathed, Drew (5-2) would score a season-high six runs in the top of the second. The Rangers racked up seven hits and the inning was highlighted by two-RBI singles by
Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) and
Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison).
The run support was more than starting pitcher
Adriana Durso (Old Tappan, N.J./No. Valley Old Tappan) needed as she collected her fourth win in as many starts. She had her no-hit bid end in the bottom of the fifth inning on a bloop single that landed in between the second baseman and right fielder. She finished the day allowing only one run and striking out four batters.
Drew would then pour it on in the top of the seventh batting around for the second time in the game posting another eight runs. Freshman
Brooke Nwosu (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) batted twice in the inning and racked up four RBIs. In her first at bat she took a second pitch fastball over the right center field wall for a solo home run, her first of her career. She would then come up again and deliver a two-RBI single that cleared the bases making the score 15-1.
Classmate
Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) finished the game going 4-for-4 and scoring two runs. Barletta went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs while Nwosu was also 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
The Rangers will begin their final day of spring training in Cape Coral tomorrow at 9:00 AM when they take on Olivet College. Their final game in Florida will be at 1:00 PM against SUNY Fredonia.
