Durso Wins Sixth, Rangers Split
MADISON, N.J. (March 17, 2011) - Senior
Adriana Durso (Old Tappan, N.J./No. Valley Old Tappan) picked up her sixth-straight victory as the Rangers defeated in Muhlenberg, 3-1 in game one. The Mules would come back and defeat the Rangers 17-4 in the game two.
Game One- Box Score
Durso, who is still unblemished as a starter this season, surrendered only one run over seven innings of work for the Rangers' seventh win of the year. She would walk only two batters while striking out four Mules on the day.
The lone Muhlenberg run came in the top of the fifth and broke a scoreless tie. After getting the lead runner out at home plate the play before, the Mules would eventually get Devon Barber home on a single by Erica Wenzel. The Rangers defense would strand a runner and get out of the inning on when Wenzel got caught in a rundown at the plate.
The Rangers would get nothing in the bottom of the fifth and after holding the Mules scoreless in the top half of the sixth, the Drew bats came alive in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman
Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro) got the rally started with a one-out bunt single. The Mules recorded the second out of the inning which brought up
Brooke Nwosu (Freehold, Twp. N.J./Freehold Twp.). With one swing of the bat, Nwosu tied the game up with a double down the left field line, bringing Forsell around all the way from first.
Jillian Lusk (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) then put the Rangers ahead with a single to right that scored pinch runner
Jailene Morcelo (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) from second.
Drew would tack on one more run off a
Nicole Spiotta (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown) single that plated Lusk. Durso induced three ground balls in the top of the seventh to secure the 3-1 victory.
Game Two- Box Score
Two monster innings from the Mules would be the story of game two. Right out of the gates Muhlenberg posted a seven runs on four hits. An even bigger top of the fourth would bury the Rangers after 10 more runs crossed the plate. Freshman Kelly Kline scored three runs in the game and racked up two hits and three RBI to lead the Mules.
Eleven of the 17 Muhlenberg runs were charged to the Drew pitching staff who walked a total of eight batters in the contest. Senior
Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two of the four Ranger runs in the game.
Drew will travel across the river on Saturday for a twinbill with the College of Staten Island. The first pitch is set to begin at 12:00.
