Royals Take Game One Behind Strong Pitching

SCRANTON, Pa. (April 15, 2011) – Royal pitcher Robert Della Porra threw eight innings of scoreless baseball and surrendered only two hits en route to the game one victory. The Scranton (10-14, 5-5 Landmark) offense behind him, pushed runs across in six of the eight turns at the plate, powering the Royals to a 13-1 victory.
The Royals got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first scoring two runs including a solo home run by David Giglio. As Della Porra cruised, the Royal offense began to do their damage in the middle innings. Scranton scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-0 lead.
Della Porra held Drew (8-18-1, 1-11-1 Landmark) hitless over the first three innings of play before
Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Della Porra gave up his other hit in the Rangers next turn at the plate on a
Drew Obergfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic) single.
After Della Porra left was relieved in the bottom of the ninth, the Rangers scored their only run of the game. Freshman
Justin Mancini (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland Regional) doubled home Bodden who reached earlier on an infield hit.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon with the first game of a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 AM.
