Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (April 22, 2011) – The first place Moravian Greyhounds (25-7, 13-1 Landmark) were able to win the first two games of the three-game set today, 9-0 and 4-2 on Doc Young Field.. Drew (10-22, 1-13-1 Landmark) got a complete game out of senior Evan Martens (Avon, Conn./Avon) in game two who did not allow an earned run.

The Greyhound offense didn't waste much time getting on the scoreboard in either contest. In game one they posted two runs in the bottom of the first on three hits. Moravian's first five batters reached base, scoring on an error and an RBI single.

The Moravian offense blew the game open in the top of the fourth, essentially ending the day for Ranger starter, Tom Koontz (Allentown, N.J./Allentown). Six runs would cross the plate on seven hits in the frame. Kevin O'Keefe and Mike Zubia combined for six hits in nine at bats on the day, including four RBI on the day.

In the nightcap it would be the Ranger defense that would hinder the chances of a split.. An error with two outs in the first inning allowed three Greyhounds to cross the plate giving the away team another early lead. Martens was solid on the hill, going all seven innings, walking three and striking out two but came up short of his first victory of the season.

Unlike the first game the Rangers were able to to rovide some run support for their starter. Steve DeBonis (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) sparked a sixth inning rally in the bottom of the sixth with a single to right center field. The designated hitter, Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), followed up with a ground rule double down the left field line to put two runners in scoring position. The next batter, Drew Obergfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic), came up and delivered the third hit of the inning scoring DeBonis from third. Harasin settled down and retired the next two batters, leaving two of the nine runners left on base by the home team.

In their final turn at the plate, the Rangers once again got a hit from their lead-off man, this time Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) ripped a double down the left field line to get the rally started. With the Greyhound closer, Kyle Longernecker, on the mound for the save the Rangers could not get another hit off the stopper. Bodden would come around on a throwing error but Longernecker left the final unner on base for his seventh save of the year.

The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow, to wrap up the three-game set. The nine inning game is set to start at 12:00 PM.
