MADISON, N.J. (April 26, 2011) – Softball completed the all-sport sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson (13-14) with a 3-1 victory this afternoon. Celebrating Senior Day, the Rangers got a complete game out of
Adriana Durso (Old Tappan, N.J./No. Valley Old Tappan) who earned her eleventh win of the season.
The senior right hander held the Devils scoreless all the way up until the top of the sixth inning, after the Rangers had built her a two-run lead. Durso struck out three while walking only one and scattered six hits over seven innings of work.
The Drew (14-16) offense built a two-run cushion for their starter in back-to-back innings. The Rangers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with the help of two more seniors.
Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) led off the inning with a single to right field. The next two Ranger batters were retired which left
Nicole Spiotta (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown) an RBI opportunity. The senior captain ripped a double to left that brought Eggert all the way home from first.
In their next at bat the Rangers manufactured a run on a sacrifice fly by
Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro).
Jen Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) led off the inning with a bunt single and went on to steal second. She was moved over by a ground out to the left side that allowed come home of Forsell's fly ball to left.
After the Devils got on the board in the top of the sixth, the Rangers added an insurance run on
Brooke Nwosu 's (Freehold, Twp./Freehold Twp.) third home run of the spring. Eggert was 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored and upped her batting average to a team-leading .385.
The Rangers will play their final home game of the spring, tomorrow when the square off with Hunter College for one game. First pitch is set for 4:30.
