Rangers Blank Hunter in Home Finale
Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (April 27, 2011) –
Adriana Durso (Old Tappan, N.J./No. Valley Old Tappan) did it all her final home game of her career. The senior pitched a five-inning shutout and went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in an 8-0 win over Hunter (19-12-2).
Drew improved to 15-16 on the year and will go into Saturday's doubleheader against Scranton with a shot to qualify for the Landmark Conference playoffs.
Durso got some early run support as the Rangers took advantage of two Hawk errors in the bottom half of the first inning. Durso and Hunter counterpart Angel Iacovetti held the two sides scoreless over the next four and half innings. Durso allowed only four hits and issued two walks and struck out six batters for her 12th win of the season. Iacovetti matched her all the way up until the last inning when the Ranger bats awoke.
Seniors
Jillian Lusk (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and
Nicole Spiotta (Morristown, N.J./Morristown-Beard) started the rally with back-to-back singles. Durso would score Lusk on her seventh RBI of the season. The Rangers blew the game open on a bases loaded double by
Brooke Gagliano (Freehold Twp., N.J./Freehold Twp.). The game would end on the fifth Hunter error of the afternoon after five innings of play.
The Rangers will travel to Scranton on Saturday needing a sweep to be a part of postseason play for the first time since the 2008 season. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00.
