Box Score Rangers Roll in First Round of Scarlet Raider Classic

NEWARK, N.J. (September 10, 2011) Men's Soccer cruised past Carthage College, 2-0 in the first round of the Scarlet Raider Classic hosted by Rutgers-Newark this afternoon. Drew improved to 3-0 on the season while the Red Men fall to 0-3 on the year.
Freshman Tommy Tolve (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) notched his second goal of the season in the 28th minute to give the Rangers an early lead. Tolve took advantage of a ball that bounced off a defenderand blasted a shot from 20 yards out.
Junior Rich Boland (North Kingston, R.I. / Moses Brown) got the start in net for the Rangers and delivered his second-straight shutout. He made three saves for his third victory of the young season. The lone goal of the second half came by virtue of a penalty kick. Sophomore Kevin Veliz (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield) converted for his first career penalty kick for the only other goal of the contest.
The Rangers will return to action tomorrow for the second game of the Scarlet Raider Classic when they take on Western Connecticut at 3:00 p.m.
