NEWARK, N.J. (September 11, 2011) - In the afternoon finale of the Scarlet Raider Classic, Drew improves to 4-0 on the year with a 2-0 victory over Western Connecticut State. Sophomore Kevin Veliz (Plainfield, N.J. / Plainfield), led the charge for the Rangers netting his fifth career goal and second of the weekend.

In the first 45 minutes, Drew outshot the Colonials 8-4 but could not find the back of the net sending both teams into the half notched at zero.

The Rangers wasted no time, scoring back to back goals in the first seven minutes of the second half.  Veliz curled a ball just under the cross bar on an awarded free kick  to put the Rangers up by one. Not even two minutes later, Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico / Vincent Memorial) sailed a ball to the middle of the box that John Nogiewich (Pine Beach, N.J. / Toms River South) was able to head past the keeper.

Drew's defense anchored by keeper Rich Boland (North Kingston, R.I. / Moses Brown) remained seamless allowing only four shots on goal, collecting their third straight shutout of the young season.

This Wednesday, the Rangers return to action as they head to cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham for the first installment of the Battle of Madison Avenue this year. Game time set for 7:00 p.m.
