Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 20, 2012) – For the sixth-straight year, the Rangers clinch a spot in the Landmark Conference postseason after a 1-0 win over Juniata this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. Senior
Kevin Walpole (Newark, Del./Sanford School) scored the game-winner in the 85
th minute to seal the Ranger victory.
The Rangers finally broke the scoreless tie with 5:53 remaining in the game when
Daniel Giraldo served a pass into the middle of the box that Walpole was able to poke into the back of the net from close range. The lone goal would stand as the Rangers defense did not allow another shot for the remainder of the game to preserve the shutout victory.
Sophomore
Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) made four saves for the Rangers in goal while Eagle netminder Erza Cassel was able to make a game-high nine saves. The Rangers attempted 12 corner kicks outshot the Eagles 23-4 on the day.
Since the matchup began with the inception of the Landmark Conference in 2007, the Rangers hold a perfect 6-0 record against the Eagles.
With a win at home against Catholic next week, the Rangers will enter the Landmark Conference as the third seed. Based on head-to-head tiebreakers with Scranton and Susquehanna the Drew can only be the third or fourth seed. The men will play the second half of a soccer doubleheader next week against the Cardinals that is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
