Rangers Improve Playoff Position With Convincing Win

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 20, 2012) – The Drew women's soccer team scored three second half goals in a 5-1 Landmark Conference victory over Juniata (9-6-1, 2-3 Landmark) this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. Junior Katie O'Keefe (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) tallied five points in the contest, scoring twice and assisting on the game's final goal.

The victory evens the Rangers record to 7-7-2 on the season and 2-1-2 in Landmark Conference play. The Rangers now sit in a tie for fourth place with next week's opponent Catholic. A victory over  the Cardinals or a loss by Juniata to first place Scranton next Saturday will clinch a playoff berth for the Rangers.

Drew never trailed in today's contest and got on the scoreboard in the 26th minute on a goal by Emma Campbell (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill). The freshman tallied her conference-leading 13th goal beating two defenders in the box and eventually the Eagle goaltender to the right side of the net.

A little under three minutes later, O'Keefe recorded her first goal on a deflection off a defender that fell right to her foot as she waited on the back post. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead into halftime and owned a 8-5 advantage in shots.

The Eagles cut the Drew lead in half in the 60th minute thanks to a foul in the box by Ranger goalkeeper Kim Jaikissoon (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia). Juniata Head Coach Scott McKenzie elected Alicia Snyder to take the kick and she converted it for her third goal of the season.

The Drew offense took over from that point scoring three unanswered goals. Freshman Mel Santos (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) headed a Liz Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) cross to put the Rangers up 3-1 in the 68th minute.

O'Keefe tallied her second goal of the game in the 81st minute when Campbell won a 50/50 ball just outside the box and then slipped a perfect pass to help make the scored 4-1. The scoring was capped off by senior Courtney Carnavale (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) who received a volley from O'Keefe off the corner by Loiodice.

The Rangers will travel across the street on Wednesday to take on Fairleigh Dickinson in the final fall version of the Battle of Madison Ave. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
