(October 27, 2012) – The Drew University men's soccer team (11-5-2, 4-3 Landmark) fell in its regular season finale, 1-0 to Catholic (13-5, 5-2 Landmark) on Senior Day in Ranger Stadium. The loss positions the Rangers as the fourth seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament.
Despite outshooting the Cardinals 15-7 on the game, Catholic took advantage of its only shot on goal in the 55
th minute. Ian Smith provided a perfect lead pass to Cardinal forward, Mike Brennan who beat goalkeeper
Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) to the right side of the net. The score was the seventh of the season for Brennan and his third game-winner of the fall.
Reyes did not see much action on his side of the field, not recording a save on the afternoon. The Drew offense struggled to cash in on numerous opportunities in throughout the game.
Catholic ended the season in a three-way tie for first place with Scranton and Susquehanna.
After going through six tiebreakers to determine the top seed, the only remaining tie-breaker was a coin flip or similar random action. A draw was held to determine the No. 1 seed, with the first name drawn earning the top seed. Susquehanna was the first name drawn.
Per conference rule, in a tie of more than two teams, once one team has won a tie-breaker, the tie-breaker process among the remaining teams begins again starting with step one. Catholic defeated Scranton head-to-head, giving the Cardinals the second seed in the tournament.
The Rangers are scheduled to take on top-seeded Susquehanna in Selinsgrove, Pa. on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. With impending weather forecasted to hit the Mid-Atlantic region, please check
