Tolve’s Big Night Leads Rangers Past Roadrunners

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 3, 2012) – Sophomore Tommy Tolve (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) scored a pair of goals in a 3-0 shutout of Ramapo College (5-6) tonight at Ranger Stadium. With the win the Rangers improve to 7-2-2 on the season.

Tolve fired a game-high four shots that eventually led to two goals in the Rangers sixth shutout of the season. Just before the first half ended the Rangers were awarded a free kick near the midfield line. Junior Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) delivered a perfect pass to the head of Tolve who flicked the ball into the left side of the net.

The first half would end with the Rangers leading 1-0 and holding a 7-2 advantage in shots. The final 35 minutes belonged to the Rangers who tacked on two more scores to lock down their second win in five days. Senior Mike Jacques (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) was credited with the second goal of the game after winning a ball just outside the box and firing a shot into the right side of the net.

Tolve sealed the Drew victory in the 86th minute after Eduardo Moran (Mexicali, Mexico/El Cajon) delivered a long cross that Tolve buried into the back of the net.

Senior Rich Boland (North Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown) made just two saves and recorded his 11th career shutout.

The Rangers will hit the road on Saturday and travel to Towson, Md. for a Landmark Conference game against Goucher College. The men will play the second half of a soccer doubleheader and begin at 3:30 p.m.
