MADISON, N.J. (November 17, 2012) – The Catholic University men's and women's swim teams captured a pair victories at F.M. Kirby Pool this afternoon. The Cardinal men defeated the Rangers by a score of 124-62 while the women topped Drew, 125-61.
For the season the Drew men drop to 1-3 on the season while the women fall to 0-4. The Ranger men and women remain winless at 0-2 in meets against Landmark Conference opponents. Catholic, who's men and women placed fourth in the Landmark Conference Championships last year, both improve to 4-2 and 3-1 in the Landmark Conference.
Junior
Mariel Schwinger (Los Angeles, Calif./Sherman Oaks) was the lone swimmer on the women's side to capture an individual race win. The third-year swimmer posted her best time of the season, a 2:05.21, in the 200 freestyle for the victory. The time is the fifth fastest in the Landmark Conference this season.
Sophomore
Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) put forth her best effort as a Ranger posting a pair of lifetime bests. She finished second in the 100 Breastroke with a time of 1:17.34 and previously swam a career-best of 6:44.87 in the 500 Freestyle.
For the men,
Clayton Curran (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) captured a first place victory in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:52.93. Curran also finished in second place in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke.
Thomas DiGuglielmo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) rounded out the Drew first place finishers after touching with the fastest time in the 100 Breastroke.
The Rangers will begin to prepare for the annual three-day Ranger Invitational beginning on November 30
th. Preliminaries will begin at 9:00 a.m. with finals starting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
