Late First Half Run Buries Rangers

Box Score WESTFIELD, Conn. (November 17, 2012) – A 17-2 run late in the first half was too much for Drew (0-2) to overcome as the fell in the consolation game of the Westfield St. Tournament to Regis College (1-1) by the score of 59-37.

Claire Romonas, of Regis, led all scorers with 16 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. The Pride also received a 13-point effort from Janaya Bradley.

For the Rangers senior Becky Smith (Haverhill, Mass./ Presentation of Mary Academy) poured in a career-high 11 points in the loss. She collected most of her points from the charity stripe, going 7-for-12. Classmate Whitney Mackay (Suffield, Conn./Berkshire) put together another solid effort scoring nine points on 3-of-8 shooting.

The 17-2 first-half run for the Pride began at the 11:47 mark and before you knew it, Regis was up 32-15 at the half. The Rangers struggled once again from the floor, shooting just 23 percent as a team for the game. Drew did manage to get to the free throw line 21 times, make 13 attempts with seven of them coming from Smith.

Despite the 22-point difference in the final score, the Rangers owned the Pride on the boards by holding a 30-21 advantage.
Drew will open up their home schedule on Tuesday when they welcome an 0-2 Centenary College team. The tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym.
