Rangers Topple Valiants, End Skid

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (December 20, 2012) – The Drew women's basketball team ended a four-game losing streak with 80-50 victory over Manhattanville (6-4) this afternoon in Baldwin Gym. The Rangers put forth their best offensive performance of the season and improved to 3-7 on the year.

Five of the seven players that saw action today reached double-digit scoring as the Rangers shot a scorching 48 percent from the floor for the game. Drew was led by senior Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) who had 16 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five assists. Sophomore Breana Wilson (Irvington, N.J./Berkshire School) and freshman Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) each had a career-highs, notching 12 points apiece in the win.

The Valiants were led by a pair of 17-point scorers in Alyson Caiazzo and Shayna Robinson. Caiazzo, who came into the game ranked ninth in the country in rebounding, pulled down a game-high 13 boards in the loss. Bri Pabon rounded out the Manhattanville scoring, adding 11 points.

The Rangers never trailed in the contest and started the game off by scoring the first eight points. The Valiants pulled within four points on a Pabon three with 10:26 remaining in the first, but that was the closest they got for the rest of the contest. The Rangers ripped off an 11-0 run following the Pabon basket and took a 38-20 lead into halftime.

Drew turned it on in the second half, shooting 57 percent from the floor and was 6-for-11 from 3-point range. Senior Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) scored nine of her 14 points in the second half, and was 6-of-9 from the field for the game. Freshman Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) fell two points shy of her fourth double-double of the season, grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Rangers will be back home next Saturday, December 29th when they take on Utica College at 4:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym.
