Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Box Score Game 1 | Box Score Game 2
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 11, 2012) – After falling 6-5 to Keystone College in their first game of the season this morning, the Rangers settled in and put their bats to work to earn their first win of the year with a 8-0 win over Hilbert College.  Freshman Amy Benedict (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township) got her first career win, allowing no runs and scattering just four hits over six innings.

Game 1
Keystone was able to take advantage of some key errors by Drew in the early innings to keep the score tied at two headed in to the fourth inning.  The Rangers came to life with a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth inning that would push three runs across.
With two on and two out, sophomore Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) hit a double to left field to bring in Michelle Cozza (Wantaugh, N.J./MacArthur) and Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) giving the Rangers a 4-2 lead.  Forsell's speed would advance her to third on a passed ball, where she was batted in by a single from third baseman Kate McNamara (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur).

The Giants came alive in the fifth, scoring in each of the last three innings.  They answered the Rangers in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer from Abby Cohen, and brought the winning run in on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth.

Game 2
The Rangers exploded and complemented a strong performance in the circle from Amy Benedict (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township) in their second game against Hilbert College.  The freshman, Benedict, got her first career win, allowing no runs and scattering just four hits over six innings.

Drew jumped out in front early to give Benedict breathing room.  Taking advantage of four errors from the Hawks, the Rangers plated three runs in the first.  Junior Jen Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) started the inning off by running out a dropped third strike and scoring off of a bobbled catch from the Hawks second baseman.

Michelle Cozza (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) was also able to capitalize off an error, reaching  second off of her grounder, and then scored on the next play from a similar mishap brought on by the bat of Forsell.

Forsell would reach home off of an error by the Hilbert shortstop to bring the total runs for the inning to three.

The middle of the Rangers lineup continued their success with five more runs due to the efforts of Cozza and Forsell, who each had two hits and combined for three runs scored and three RBIs.

Drew continues their Spring Break in Myrtle Beach tomorrow at 9:30 AM against the University of Rio Grande and at 11:30 AM against Bay Path College.
