LEESBURG, Fla. (March 17, 2012) – Two strong pitching efforts by Ken Myers (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) and Alex Taylor (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) helped the Drew (6-4) get past Hamilton (2-6) 7-3 today at Pat Thomas Stadium. The Rangers end their spring break trip with a 4-3 record and will head north with Landmark Conference play beginning next weekend.

Myers got the start for the Rangers and threw four innings, allowing an unearned run and scattering four hits. Taylor came on in the fifth and was credited with his second win of the season allowing two runs on five hits.

The Ranger offense provided Myers with a 1-0 lead before he threw his first pitch after senior Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) brought home Steven Debonis (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) on a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the first. Murray continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 on the day and raising his average to .462 on the year.

The Continentals pushed their only run across against Myers in the bottom of the second on a John Wulf RBI single scoring Glenn de Marrais who reached on error earlier in the inning. The run would mark the only tie of the day as the Rangers would control the rest of ballgame.

Drew took the lead for good in the top of the fifth taking advantage of two of the five Hamilton errors in the game.  DeBonis led off the inning reaching on another Continental mishap and later scored on a Pete Tuchol (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) RBI single. Murray, who singled earlier in the inning came around from second on a throwing error by Hamilton pitcher Colin Henneberger to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead.

The Rangers tacked on one run in each of the last three innings to give Taylor plenty of breathing room. Matthew Kaplon (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) homered for the first time this spring leading off the ninth with a solo blast to right. The long ball was the second of his career that put the Rangers up 7-2.

Freshman Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) had two hits in his second start of the season while Chris Roll (Linden, N.J./Union County Vo Tech) had a season-high three hits in the victory.

The Rangers will head north and play their first road game of the season on Tuesday against Arcadia at 3:30.
