BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (March 28, 2012) – A combined 41 runs and 39 hits between Drew (8-7) and Centenary (8-12) were tallied as the Rangers won, 23-18 this afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark. The 41 runs tied a school mark of combined runs in game set back in 1995 when Drew defeated Staten Island 29-12.

The Rangers matched a number of individual school records in the contest as they scored runs in all but three of the nine innings played. Junior Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) went 3-for-5 on the day with six RBIs and two runs scored. The six RBIs tied the school mark held by two other Rangers. Pat Lydon (Cumberland, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy and Matthew Hunter (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) each came up to the plate seven times which also ties a school record. Freshman Al Krause (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus), who was 2-for-4 on the day with three walks, crossed the plate five times which has been done only twice since 2000.

Seven of the nine Ranger starters had multiple hit games and five of them had three hits.  Bodden, Tom Murray (Brick N.J./Brick Memorial), Drew Obergfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic), Krause and Chris Roll (Linden, N.J./Union County Vo-Tech) each had three hits on the afternoon.

Despite the offensive outburst, the Rangers never trailed in the contest, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning to take the initial lead in the ball game. The Rangers put up five runs two more times, once in the top of the sixth and again in the top of the seventh.

The game was sloppy on the defensive side with 12 combined errors in the game, with eight charged to the Cyclones. Ranger starting pitcher Francis Rossi (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) was credited with the win, allowing only three earned runs in 4.1 innings worked.

The Rangers return home on Thursday for a non-conference matchup with New Jersey City University at 3:30 p.m. on Doc Young Field.
