MADISON, N.J. (March 29, 2012) – William Paterson won both games of today's doubleheader at Drew, overpowering the Rangers 10-0 in game one and 6-1 in game two. The Rangers only run came off the bat of third baseman
Kate McNamara (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) to give
Antoinette Tovar (South El Monte, Calif./South El Monte) her eighth run scored on the season.
Game 1
The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead against Rangers pitcher
Amy Benedict (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township). Shortstop Kaitlyn Miele, who went five for six on the day, with three RBIs and three runs scored, started the game with a double, the first of three in the inning. Miele scored on a ground-rule double from Christina Austin, who was later brought home on a double by Jessica Phillips.
Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) relieved Benedict with the bases loaded and no outs, but couldn't get out of the inning before two more runs scored.
The Rangers were unable to respond, but held the Pioneers to one more run until the top of the fifth inning. With two on, pitcher Kerrin Dys helped her own cause with a home run over the right field fence. Miele recorded her first RBI of the day to stretch the Pioneers lead to 10. .
Game 2
Drew starter
Casey Reggiani (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) got off to a shaky start, allowing one run in each of her first three innings of work. The Ranger defense was plagued by costly errors, with five in the game. Reggiani settled in, going three up-three down in the next two innings.
The Rangers were able to close the gap to two when
Antoinette Tovar hit a line drive up the middle to start the fourth inning.
Michelle Cozza (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) and
Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) each recorded a single to advance Tovar to scoring position. Third baseman
Kate McNamara got the Rangers only RBI of the day with her one-out sacrifice fly.
The Drew rally stalled and William Paterson answered in the top of the sixth inning with three runs on three hits that included a triple and double that found the hole near second base.
The Rangers look to snap their losing streak when they travel to Juniata for a Landmark conference doubleheader this Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM in Huntingdon, Pa.
