HUNTINGDON, Pa. (March 31, 2012) – Juniata (8-12, 2-2 Landmark) walked off with a 4-3 extra innings victory over the Rangers in game one. The Drew (6-10, 2-4 Landmark) offense came alive in game two with a 12-0 shutout of the Eagles.
Game 1
The Rangers held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Eagles led off the inning with a single from Erin Francis and she was then sacrificed over to second by Paige Robertson. Ranger pitcher
Casey Reggiani (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) retired the next better but with two outs Kelsea Decker delivered the game-tying RBI single.
The Eagles scored in their second-straight at bat in the bottom of the eighth to win in walk-off fashion on an RBI single by Jennifer Ashcraft.
Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro) collected three hits for the Rangers and scored one of the Rangers two runs in the contest. Junior
Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in game one.
Game 2
The Rangers pushed across runs in four of the five innings including a seven-run third inning. Drew racked up a season-high 15 hits in the game. The seven-run third included back-to-back home runs by
Amy Benedict (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.) and
Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township).
Antoinette Tovar (South El Monte, Calif./South El Monte), Barletta, Reggiani and Benedict each had two hits in the contest.
Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J/Union City) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the nightcap.
In the circle, D'Ornellas scattered three hits in five innings of work, striking out four to earn the win.
The Rangers will host the First Annual Strikeout Cancer Game on Tuesday in a doubleheader against Stevens at 3:00 p.m.
