MADISON, N.J. (March 6, 2012) – Bloodhounds pitcher Braylin Perez (2-0) allowed only two hits and one run to hand the Rangers their first loss of the season, as Drew (2-1) fell, 7-1 to John Jay College (2-7) this afternoon. The offense was able to take advantage of seven Ranger errors, scoring seven runs on nine hits.
The game started out as pitcher's duel, with neither team scoring until the fourth inning. Drew starting pitcher
Ken Myers (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) held John Jay to one hit and had four strikeouts before getting in to trouble in the fourth inning, with the first three batters all reaching base. The Bloodhounds had only one hit, but were able to capitalize on two Ranger infield errors to get on the scoreboard first.
After falling in a 3-0 hole, the Rangers responded with their only run of the game when sophomore
Dominic Reyes (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) roped a two-out single to bring in
Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial).
The Bloodhounds would answer with two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings against Ranger reliever
Cody Cummings (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy), in his first trip to the mound this season.
Drew produced its second hit of the game when
Drew Obergfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic) singled to right field in the fifth.
The Rangers head to Florida on Friday for the RussMatt Tournament in Orlando where they will face seven different teams over the course of the week. They will start off against Northland at 9:00 AM Saturday.
