Quick Start by Roadrunners Too Much for Rangers

MAHWAH, N.J. (April 18, 2012) – Ramapo (23-7) scored three run in the first inning that aided a 5-3 victory over Drew (16-14) this afternoon in non-conference action. Freshman Michael Chiarella (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the loss.

The Roadrunners put together a two-out rally in their first at bat. After a single and a hit batsman, Matthew Hancock delivered a single to left that scored the game's first run. The next batter, Chris Werr, gave Ramapo a three-run advantage with a single to right that scored two runs.

In the bottom of the third, Christian Spur padded the Ramapo lead with a solo homer to left. Drew starting pitcher Francis Rossi (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) kept the Roadrunners in check for the remainder of the contest and gave the Rangers seven innings of work, striking out three batters.

Spurr drove in the final Ramapo run in the fifth on an RBI double to right stretching lead to 5-1. Spurr was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and run scored on the day.

The Rangers tacked on a run in each the sixth and the seventh inning but left four runners on base in their final three at bats. Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and Al Krause (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) each had two hits in the game.

The Rangers will play in a crucial Landmark Conference series with Scranton at home beginning on Friday. The two teams will play a nine-inning game on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and will play a doubleheader at 11:00 a.m. Senior day ceremonies will go as planned prior to game one on Saturday.
