Hutsebaut's Three-run Homer Salvages Ranger Split

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (April 18, 2012) – Freshman Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) blasted a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to give the Rangers a 4-3 win over Muhlenberg (15-17) in game two of a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Mules took game one in five innings, 9-1.

Game 1
Drew (12-16) tied the game up at one in the top of the third on an RBI double by Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) that scored Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.Y./Lacey Twp.).

The Mules would do all of their damage in the final three innings, plating eight runs for the mercy-rule victory. Devon Barber powered a three-run fourth inning with a two-run triple to center field to give the Mules a 7-1 lead. Barber went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the first game.

The Rangers aided the Mule offensive efforts, making four errors. Muhlenberg starting pitcher Heather Porrini pitched all five innings, and scattered six Ranger hits to earn the victory.

Game 2
In the nightcap it would be the Rangers that grabbed the initial lead after a two-out error off the bat of Cassy Madey (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren) that scored Hutsebaut. The Mules took their first lead of the ball game courtesy of a three-run fifth. Chelsea Benjamin gave the Muhlenberg the lead with a two-run single with two outs.

The Rangers responded in the top of the sixth after back-to-back singles by Forsell and Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison). Hutesebaut stepped in and blasted a home run down the left field line to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead.

With the lead, Drew gave the ball to Amy Benedict (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.) who worked two scoreless innings, allowing only one hit to earn her second save of the season. Casey Reggiani (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) started the game for the Rangers and was credited with her fourth win of the year.

The Rangers will be on the road on Saturday as they continue their Landmark Conference schedule against Susquehanna in Selinsgrove, Pa. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
