Trailing 5-2 after five innings, the Rangers rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth to come within one run. Senior
Drew Oberfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic) and
Michael Chiarella (Harrison, N.Y../Harrison) delivered back-to-back RBI singles to make the score 5-4.
The game-tying rally in the top of the eighth was sparked by two of the three Staten Island errors on the night. Freshman
Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) came all the way around from second on to tie the game on a mishap by the Staten Island defense on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Chiarella.
One batter later,

The third Dolphin error helped scored the Rangers' final run of the game in the top of the ninth on bases loaded error by short stop Bryan Moreno.
The Dolphins scored in each of their first five at bats on 10 hits off Ranger starting pitcher,
Leo Ruiz (Perth Amboy, N.J./Saint Joseph). Junior
Cody Cummings (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) came on in relief in the fourth inning, getting the Rangers out of a jam and going on to throw four scoreless innings to pick up his second victory of the season.
Junior
Pat Rock (Cranston, R.I./Providence Country Day) came on in the bottom of the eighth, allowed one hit over an inning and a third of work to earn his sixth save of the season.
The Rangers will wrap up their non-conference schedule tomorrow in the baseball version of the Battle of Madison Ave. Fairleigh Dickinson will come to Doc Young Field with first pitch scheduled for 3:30. Prior to the game will mark Faculty Appreciation Day with ceremonies beginning at approximately 3:20.
